Fixtures Section News for Week 5^th May

The countdowns have begun to mighty efforts to raise funds for most needy projects.  On Sunday 6^th the countdown begins for the Great Croke Park Concert Tickets – only 3 days to go.  We intend to have the draw after the Senior Hurling Championship Game v N. Mearnog at 7.15pm.  Special soup for everybody returning their stubbs.   Then there is The Great Walk or ‘ These boots were made for walking’ fundraiser starting on 24^th.  This ‘little’ venture has really taken off (publicity wise – have you listened to your radio recently, read a newspaper or better still have a read of this on hill16.ie).  Mel has received requests for ‘joiners’  - not the trade types, thought they are very welcome – and what we hope to do is to publish start times/day/ and places where Mel and co. will be starting each day for people who wish to join that or part of any of the day’s walk – more about this later.  Then there is something which is close to all our hearts – when Jenny Varszegi leads her team in the Flora Ladies Mini Marathon.  This venture has been a great success for CRY and Lorraine and her gang led the way last year.  Tell Jenny that you would like to join her team for the 4^th June.   Everyone who has ‘done’ this in the past or just went into the city to see what happens on this day every year – June Bank Holiday Monday – receive a great boost to BE IRISH.  Very hard to describe the overall atmosphere, the feeling of total joy – so if you can join Jenny now, get organised and experience this day for yourself.  Unfortunately lads this day is for ladies only.  We meet for a group photo in at the Conrad Hotel - opposite the National Concert Hall at about 1pm.

Mel, in one of his interviews, mentioned our 100^th Birthday and we have had several people asking ‘what is our club going to do for our centenary’?  In sporting terms now ‘is the time to go forward’, ‘attack’ this subject  score ‘goals’ and many, many ‘hurls’ to climb. We will provisionally adopt/start with the title ‘Towards 2017’, put this topic up on our own ‘New Forum’ and let’s see what your ideas are.  So when you are together bring up and discuss this subject for a few minutes.  If you are in the Club, look around and see what you would like to happen in 2017 or before.   Then when all the suggestions are in and we have some sort of discussion between all the sections, we will make a presentation to our Executive. Let’s have your ideas please and if you feel shy and are not willing to go the webpage, then write a letter to us at Fixtures.  We will set a preliminary deadline for ideas to be submitted – 31^st July.
